Story
"Jade, the caramel-skinned girl, stared restlessly into the gloom of the jungle. Her eyes strained to see beyond the violet shadows created by the thick canopy of trees... Before her unfolded the immortal impassivity of the night, with silences so overwhelming that they seemed to exist only in the sky and among the stars. The animals, who usually narrated their exploits to the moon, remained silent, watching the girl and the terrifying spectacle.
Thus begins "The Jade Codex", a tribute to fantasy, the magic of the jungle, alternative worldviews to the prevailing one and the courage of so many girls like Jade who face destiny with atavistic strength.
Main Characters
JADE... Has been an outsider in her village since birth, due to her strange green eyes. So when she is chosen for sacrifice to the snake men, she believes she will finally be accepted. However, Quetzal, the snake man who was going to kill her, decides to save her life instead, and so begins her odyssey through the jungle.
QUETZAL. He belongs to the tribe of the snake men, but he hates the human sacrifices that his king has demanded from the human people. So he decides to rebel and is punished, demoted from warrior to a simple lookout. When he discovers that Jade requires his help, he is ready to lead her to her king and face the consequences of his decisions.
XOLOTL. Brother of Quetzal, impetuous and somewhat playful warrior, who joins Jade and Quetzal in their journey through the sacred mountain and decides to fight to save the two towns from a greater danger.
TEBE. Unhinged and ambitious priest who chooses girls for sacrifice, and prays to the dark gods.
HUEHUECÓYOTL. Enemy of the king of the snake people; therefore, he always looks for a way to retaliate and attack his opponents. He awakens the nahuales, turning them into savage coyotes at his service with the intention of destroying both worlds.
